-The High Priest
There are three unique features of the Day of Atonement; today we will consider the High Priest. Yom Kippur is the only day of the year that the High Priest could enter the Holy of Holies. There he made atonement for the nation of Israel by putting the blood of the sacrificial goat on the mercy seat.
God gave very specific instructions.
…and the Lord said to Moses: “Tell Aaron your brother not to come at just any time into the Holy Place inside the veil, before the mercy seat which is on the ark, lest he die; for I will appear in the cloud above the mercy seat.
The High Priest wore special garments, bathed several times and offered multiple sacrifices:
- for himself and for his house
- for the Holy Place
- for the nation
Despite all the ritual the blood of the goat could never take away the sin of the people; God provided a better sacrifice.
PRAY FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM AND THAT THE JEWISH PEOPLE WILL SEEK GOD’S OFFER OF FORGIVENESS THROUGH THE BLOOD OF YESHUA.
