Love of Many Grows Cold
If a pillar of God’s covenant with mankind is uncompromising, self-sacrificing love, then the opposite would be true for the lawlessness. Thousands of years ago, Paul described lawlessness in just one word φίλαυτος (fe’-lau-tos) which simply means “selfish, lover of oneself.”
Paul stated the obvious, if the primary object of our affection is ourselves, God and everyone else is secondary. In fact, only those committed to satisfy our desires and needs is welcome in our worlds.
If unsatisfied or feeling slighted or offended, the lawless person will feel resentment, frustration, anger and without restraint will respond with unbridled violence.
Over two thousand years ago Paul described what would happen to society because of lawlessness.
2 Timothy 31-4
But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. (Standard English Version, ESV)
This explains what we are seeing on the streets around the world today… lawlessness….
When Adam and Eve rejected God’s love and God’s law, they damaged their hearts. We’ve heard of having a broken heart; a broken heart can mend. But a damaged heart must be replaced.
Down through time, humanity has tried unsuccessfully to fix society’s damaged heart.
- Good works
Paul found the only cure for a damaged heart, the remedy for lawlessness:
24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 Thanks be to God through Messiah Yeshua our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.
PRAY FOR GOD TO HEAL ALL BROKEN AND DAMAGED HEARTS BY FAITH THROUGH FAITH IN YESHUA.
