October 18: God’s unique relationship with Israel

This week we will pray for Israel through the words of the prophet Zechariah, words of warning, judgment and hope. As always, God’s unique relationship with the land and the people of Israel never changes. It is a relationship of love, grace and mercy based on His covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Zechariah 12:1-2

The burden of the word of the Lord against Israel. Thus says the Lord, who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him:  “Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and Jerusalem.

PRAY FOR ISRAEL TO EMBRACE HER UNIQUE RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD AND HIS MESSIAH.

[For the last few weeks Israelis are once again suffering terror attacks, this time at the hands of knife wielding youth.]

As of May, 2014, 2,495 Israelis had been killed in terror attacks since the establishment of the State. Since 2013 2000, 996 people have been killed in terror attacks. In addition to the victims themselves, terror attacks have turned 2,853 Israelis into orphans, with 99 of them losing both parents in the attack. There were also 978 widows, and currently there are 800 parents alive who have a least one child killed in a terror attack.
