March 8: God’s unique relationship with Israel

We now come to Romans 11, which reveals the culmination of God’s redemptive purposes.

As the rescue of God’s creation began with Israel, it will conclude with them.” [*] The hardness of Israel’s heart led to the salvation of the Gentiles who will in turn bring Israel to salvation. But in the end, it will be Israel that finally brings the Gospel to the Gentiles.

Once the Gentiles received the gift of salvation through faith, some asked about Israel’s future, “What about Israel?” The answer to this question is crucial and reflects an understanding of God’s character. Too many churches today are answering this question wrong.

Romans 11:1a

I say then, has God cast away His people? Certainly not!

[*] Paul J. Achtemeier: Romans (Atlanta, 1985)

Paul practically screams out the answer, “NO!” using the same Greek words that he used before, [οὖν μὴ].

PRAY FOR YOUR CHURCH TO UNDERSTAND GOD’S FAITHULNESS TO ISRAEL.
