March 24: Passover

– God’s Four Promises

God gave Moses 4 promises of deliverance. These promises are remembered during the Passover celebration meal, the Seder, through four cups of wine.

Exodus 6:5-7

“I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel whom the Egyptians keep in bondage, and I have remembered My covenant. Therefore say to the children of Israel: I am the Lord;

I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians,

I will rescue you from their bondage, and

I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments.

 I will take you as My people, and I will be your God. Then you shall know that I am the Lord your God who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.”

There is a fifth promise – the affirmation of the promise God gave to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob:

Exodus 6:8

And I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and I will give it to you as a heritage: I am the Lord.’”

The first promise is for physical deliverance – freedom!  This freedom was for one reason – that Israel would love and worship Him.


Four cups of wine are taken at the Passover celebration (seder) in remembrance of the four promises. The cups are called, “The Cup of Sanctification”, “The Cup of Deliverance,” “The Cup of Redemption (or Salvation).” and “The Cup of the Kingdom. ” Yeshua didn’t drink the last cup…
