March 23: Purim

– God’s sovereignty

Although God’s name is never mentioned, His sovereignty and presence is evident as He brings a perfect ending to what seems to be a disastrous situation.

Jeremiah 23:23-24

“Am I a God near at hand,” says the Lord, “and not a God afar off? Can anyone hide himself in secret places, so I shall not see him?” says the Lord; “Do I not fill heaven and earth?” says the Lord.

At the end of the story, the villain (Haman) is hung on the same gallows he built to hang the hero (Mordecai). Mordecai is promoted to Haman’s position, second only to the king. Esther, our
story’s heroine, who began her life as an orphan was crowned the Queen of Persia.

Jeremiah 32:19

You are great in counsel and mighty in work, for Your eyes are open to all the ways of the sons of men, to give everyone according to his ways and according to the fruit of his doings.
