August 10: Tisha b’Av

Call to reflection

On this day when Israel mourns the destruction of the Temple, let us remember that God is ready and willing to forgive and to bless.  He is waiting for Israel to repent and return to Him.

When God’s face looks upon Israel the affect is His blessing.  When He turns His face, the result is pain and suffering.  Israel finally understands the uniqueness of her relationship with God.  She pleads with Him not to forget His covenant with her and once again “shine His countenance upon her and give her peace.”

Lamentations 3:27-33

It is good for a man to bear

The yoke in his youth.

Let him sit alone and keep silent,

Because God has laid it on him;

Let him put his mouth in the dust—

There may yet be hope.

Let him give his cheek to the one who strikes him,

And be full of reproach.

For the Lord will not cast off forever.

Though He causes grief,

Yet He will show compassion

According to the multitude of His mercies.

For He does not afflict willingly,

Nor grieve the children of men.

PRAY FOR ISRAEL TO UNDERSTAND THE CONSEQUENCES OF SIN AGAINST GOD AND REPENT.
