We must balance God’s holiness and grace. He is both. Of course we enjoy His grace and like to focus on that, and thereby forgetting His holiness. God requires instant and complete obedience because obedience is proof of our love, trust and faith.
God’s holiness is our standard of righteousness and there is no place for compromise.
The story of King Jehoshaphat reminds us that we cannot be unequally yoked, by aligning ourselves for political or economic gain with those who hate the Lord. Love them – yes; help them – of course, but not be yoked.
2 Chronicles 19:1-3: Then Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned safely to his house in Jerusalem. And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to King Jehoshaphat, “Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the Lord? Therefore the wrath of the Lord is upon you. Nevertheless good things are found in you, in that you have removed the wooden images from the land, and have prepared your heart to seek God.”
