My brother once said to me, “I’d believe in God if I could see a miracle today.” I responded with a single word: “ISRAEL.”
For the next few Sundays I’ll share with you quotes from past visitors to Israel. [When the Romans conquered Jerusalem, they sought to wipe out the name of Israel which had been renamed “Palestine” by the Romans but which in 1948 regained it’s God given name. ]
In 1867 Mark Twain – Samuel Clemens, the famous author of “Huckleberry Finn” and “Tom Sawyer,” described land: “A desolate country whose soil is rich enough but is given over wholly to weeds. A silent, mournful expanse. We never saw a human being on the whole route. There was hardly a tree or a shrub anywhere. Even the olive and the cactus, those fast friends of a worthless soil, had almost deserted the country.”
But God made a promise to the people and the land and we see its fulfillment before our eyes! Only a fool can look at the land today and not believe that there is a God in Israel and He fulfills what He promises!
Isaiah 55:10-13: “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater.
So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
“For you shall go out with joy, and be led out with peace; the mountains and the hills shall break forth into singing before you, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree; and it shall be to the Lord for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.”
