As did his father, Jotham made a decision to do what was right according to God’s standards as preparation to stand before Him in judgment. Although the King prepared himself, the people chose not to.
Melchizedek had no recorded beginning or tribal affiliation. The Psalmist reminds us that one day every person and nation will be judged by the One who is King, Judge and Priest of the order of Melchizedek.
2Chron 27:1-2, 6: Jotham was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father Uzziah had done (although he did not enter the temple of the Lord). But still the people acted corruptly. Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the Lord his God.
Psalm 110:1-6: The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand,
till I make Your enemies Your footstool.” The Lord shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion. Rule in the midst of Your enemies!
Your people shall be volunteers in the day of Your power; in the beauties of holiness, from the womb of the morning, You have the dew of Your youth.
The Lord has sworn and will not relent, “You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.”
The Lord is at Your right hand; He shall execute kings in the day of His wrath. He shall judge among the nations, He shall fill the places with dead bodies, He shall execute the heads of many countries.
