July 20: God’s Unique Relationship with Israel

Isaiah 43:1

But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob,
and He who formed you, O Israel:
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by your name;
You are Mine.

God’s unique relationship with Israel is reflected in the four Hebrew words in this verse.

  1. Created: בֹּרַאֲ [from root bara’] used in the Genesis 1 account of creation; God creating something out of nothing.
  2. Formed: יֹצֶרְךָ [from root yatsar] an intimate, and careful fashioning
  3. Redeemed: גְאַלְ [from root ga’al] redemption by the closest relative
  4. Called: קָרָא [from root kara] to call out, proclaim, recite.

Finally so there are no doubts, God reiterates His possession and ownership of Israel.

PROCLAIM THAT ALL PEOPLE WILL RECOGNIZE GOD’S UNIQUE AND EVERLASTING RELATIONSHIP WITH ISRAEL.
