January 29: God’s Refining of Israel: Psalm 89:30-32, Hosea 2:14-15

Israel stands unique among the nations.  There is no other people group or nation that has:

  • Survived for (possibly) almost 33 centuries!
  • Survived slavery and captivity
  • Enjoyed prosperity
  • Wars, persecution, attempts of annihilation

Israel possessed the land God promised to her but then:

  • Lost the land when captured by Babylon
  • Regained the land
  • Lost the land when scattered among the nations by Rome
  • Regained the land in 1948

No other people or nation has maintained:

  • Their own language
  • Their own spiritual rituals and traditions
  • Their own land

In other words, Israel is supernatural!

Today the Jewish people take pride in their stubborn determination with or without God ignoring the truth is that Israel’s survival can ONLY be credited to God.

Through The Tribulation, God will finally break the “stiff neck as He warned.

Psalm 89:30-34

“If his sons forsake My law
And do not walk in My judgments,
If they break My statutes
And do not keep My commandments,
Then I will punish their transgression with the rod,
And their iniquity with stripes.

Nevertheless My lovingkindness I will not [g]utterly take from him,
Nor allow My faithfulness to fail.
My covenant I will not break,
Nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips.

And here is where Replacement Theology puts its roots, denying what we just read, distorting the character of God and His promise to Abraham.

Hosea 2:2-3

“Bring charges against your mother, bring charges;
For she is not My wife, nor am I her Husband!
Let her put away her harlotries from her sight,
And her adulteries from between her breasts;
Lest I strip her naked
And expose her, as in the day she was born,
And make her like a wilderness,
And set her like a dry land,
And slay her with thirst.

Nevertheless, God has a covenant relationship with Israel and His promise of refining and restoring her is the end result of Jacob’s Trouble.

Hosea 2:14-15

“Therefore, behold, I will allure her,
Will bring her into the wilderness,
And speak comfort to her.
I will give her her vineyards from there,
And the Valley of Achor as a door of hope;
She shall sing there,
As in the days of her youth,
As in the day when she came up from the land of Egypt.
