January 14: God’s unique relationship with Israel

Man has always rebelled against God’s sovereignty, trying to become equal to or like God. This man-centered thinking (called “humanism”) puts man in the center of the universe, and judges God by man’s standards. We are still hearing the same challenge, “God is not fair.”

But when we truly understand the character of God these questions vanish. He is loving, holy and just. He is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe; that is enough to end all discussions and questions.

God’s sovereign plan of redemption would come through the son of Abraham and Sarah. In a time of Abraham’s and Sarah’s doubt, Abraham fathered another son through Hagar. Sarah’s son (Isaac) was a miracle child and was called the “son of promise.” Hagar’s son (Ishmael) was the fruit of sin and called “son of the flesh.”

God’s plans would never come through the flesh.

Romans 9:7-9

nor are they all children because they are the seed of Abraham; but, “In Isaac your seed shall be called.” That is, those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted as the seed. For this is the word of promise: “At this time I will come and Sarah shall have a son.”

PRAY FOR ISRAEL AND THE CHURCH TO HUMBLY ACCEPT GOD’S SOVEREIGNTY.
