Adamantius Origen was born near Alexandrian in the 2nd century. He was a child prodigy and a religious fanatic. He gave up his job, castrated himself for the faith, fasted twice a week, owned no shoes and slept on the floor.
His desire was to become a martyr for Christ after the example of his father but was stopped when his mother hid his clothes. Origen became a prolific Christian writer. He was the first to develop a systematic theology.
But to Origen the debate between the Christians and the Jews came down to the question, “Whose Bible is it?” He believed that the Scripture belongs to the Church and is its supreme authority.
Of course the Bible is the ultimate authority for all people, but the Word of God was given to the Jews and through them shared with the world.
Renounce the Lie
“We Christians say that although (the Jews) “enjoyed the favor of God” and were loved by Him more than any others, yet this dispensation and grace changed over to us when Jesus transferred the power at work among the Jews to the Gentile believers.” (Origen)
Replace with the truth
For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved. (Romans 11:25-26 NKJV)
