THE CHESS MATCH

We move our pawn against the King,

our finest educated move

against that Monarch bring,

in savour all our local wisdom prove,

till royal wisdom’s time to turn

with forethought found on history’s board,

the match in favor of the Lord,

‘tis growth with groans our sloth reveals

as mankind’s foolish waver reels

before the matchless power,

at checkmate’s Majesty in turn

prevails upon the final hour.
