February 17: God’s unique relationship with Israel

When trying to discredit Yeshua, the Pharisees asked, “What is the greatest commandment.”  Yeshua responded by referring them to the Torah:

Deuteronomy 6:4-5

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.  You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.

Yeshua continued saying that all the other commandments rested on this one.

But what is “love?”

Both Hebrew and Greek use several words to try to communicate this word.  Loving God is more than a feeling, although it certainly is that.  But it also includes: obedience, trust, faithfulness to name just a few aspects of this same word.

The foundation of Israel’s relationship with God was not just her loving Him, but His loving her!  The Apostle John said the same thing about our relationship with God.

1 John 4:19

We love because he first loved us.

PRAY FOR ISRAEL TO LOVE YHWH WITH ALL THEIR HEARTS, SOULS, AND MINDS.
