November 3: Messianic prophecy, Redemption and salvation

There are several Hebrew words translated into English as “redemption,” “ransom” or “atonement.”  Regardless of the word used, they all point to the ultimate redemption through faith in Yeshua.

Job 33:23-28

“If there is a messenger for him,
A mediator, one among a thousand,
To show man His uprightness,
24 Then He is gracious to him, and says,
‘Deliver him from going down to the Pit;
I have found a ransom’;
25 His flesh shall be young like a child’s,
He shall return to the days of his youth.
26 He shall pray to God, and He will delight in him,
He shall see His face with joy,
For He restores to man His righteousness.
27 Then he looks at men and says,
‘I have sinned, and perverted what was right,
And it did not profit me.’
28 He will redeem his soul from going down to the Pit,
And his life shall see the light.

In the New King James version of the Bible, the word translated “ransom” in verse 24, is the Hebrew word כֹֽפֶר, and in verse 28 “redeem” is the Hebrew word פָּדָה.  A better translation for כֹֽפֶר (kopher) is atonement which is literally means “to cover.”  Strong’s Concordance gives the fuller definition as, “to cover, purge, make an atonement, make reconciliation, cover over with pitch.”

In verse :28, פָּדָה (padah) is the payment necessary for redemption.

The only atonement acceptable to God is the ransom paid by Yeshua:

Leviticus 17:11

“For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.”

1 Peter 1:18-19

You were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

PRAY ISRAEL TO BE CONVICTED OF SIN AND SEEK REDEMPTION THROUGH FAITH IN YESHUA.
