– Born to Die
Today we turn our attention to the events surrounding Yeshua’s death. He was rejected, abandoned and betrayed by His followers:
He has no form or comeliness; and when we see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him. He is despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief and we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
Psalm 41:9, 118:22
Even my own familiar friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted up his heel against me…The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone.
He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own,and His own did not receive Him.
Matthew 26:31 cf Zechariah 13:7
Then Jesus said to them, “All of you will be made to stumble because of Me this night, for it is written: ‘I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’”
And yet there were those who did believe and welcomed Yeshua into Jerusalem.
The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out:
“Hosanna! ‘Blessed isHe who comes in the name of the Lord!’ The King of Israel!”
Then Jesus, when He had found a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written:
“Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your King is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt.”
Zechariah 9:9; Psalm 118:25-29
