August 5: Redemption and salvation

God answered this prayer in the Incarnation His only begotten Son.

Psalm 57:1-3

Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me!

For my soul trusts in You;

And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge,

Until these calamities have passed by.

I will cry out to God Most High,

To God who performs all things for me.

He shall send from heaven and save me;

He reproaches the one who would swallow me up. Selah

God shall send forth His mercy and His truth.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

There are three words in these two passages to study:

  • [His]Mercy = חַסְדֹּו which means God’s covenantal unbreakable love. Also translated as loving kindness and grace.
  • [His] Truth = אֲמִתֹּֽו which comes from the root meaning “sure, trustworthy, faith.” Truth is all of those.
  • Saved = σῴζω which is used in the Greek for salvation, deliverance and healing.

God indeed heard the cry of Israel and sent from heaven becoming grace, truth and salvation.

PRAY ALL ISRAEL WILL BE SAVED!
