August 3: Israel’s Redemption and Salvation

Several times in the Psalms, we read of God’s Mighty Right Hand. The right hand of God is the place of power and authority.  The same is true in English as we speak of someone’s right hand being in the place of power, responsibility and authority.

Through the Psalms we see it is this Right Hand who brings victory, redemption, righteousness and salvation.  The question must therefore be asked, “Who is God’s ‘Right Hand?’”

Psalm 98: 1-3

Oh, sing to the Lord a new song!
 For He has done marvelous things;
 His right hand and His holy arm have gained Him the victory.

The Lord has made known His salvation;
 His righteousness He has revealed in the sight of the nations.

He has remembered His mercy and His faithfulness to the house of Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

Psalm 118:15-16, 19-20

The voice of rejoicing and salvation
is in the tents of the righteous; the right hand of the Lord does valiantly.  The right hand of the Lord is exalted; the right hand of the Lord does valiantly.

Open to me the gates of righteousness; I will go through them, and I will praise the Lord. This is the gate of the Lord, through which the righteous shall enter.
