Imagine the shock of His followers when Yeshua told them that the Temple would soon be destroyed; every stone would be thrown down! Each of them immediately responded with the same question:
“Tell us when these things be.” Then each of them wanted more information.
And what will be the sign when these things are about to take place?
And what will be the sign when all these things will be fulfilled?
Matthew was more precise in his question which reveals his expectations
And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”
The Apostles were still confused about Yeshua’s death that He kept warning them about. So what Matthew meant by “His coming” must be connected with his expectation of the “end of the age.” Matthew was probably excited Yeshua being a conquering hero, ridding Israel of the Romans and restoring the Kingdom to Israel.
“Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord,
“That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness;
A King shall reign and prosper,
And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.
In His days Judah will be saved,
And Israel will dwell safely;
Now this is His name by which He will be called:
THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
