April 29: Restoration of the Land

Caleb was one of the two spies who brought a good report of the Promised Land.  But the people did not accept his words and spent the next forty years in the wilderness.  Despite it all Caleb continued to serve God with his whole heart.

He reminded Joshua to give him the inheritance Moses promised him – including the city of Hebron.

Joshua 14:6-12a, 13-14

Then the children of Judah came to Joshua in Gilgal. And Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him: “You know the word which the Lord said to Moses the man of God concerning you and me in Kadesh Barnea. I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy out the land, and I brought back word to him as it was in my heart. Nevertheless my brethren who went up with me made the heart of the people melt, but I wholly followed the Lord my God. So Moses swore on that day, saying, ‘Surely the land where your foot has trodden shall be your inheritance and your children’s forever, because you have wholly followed the Lord my God.’ And now, behold, the Lord has kept me alive, as He said, these forty-five years, ever since the Lord spoke this word to Moses while Israel wandered in the wilderness; and now, here I am this day, eighty-five years old. As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in. Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the Lord spoke in that day.”

And Joshua blessed him, and gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as an inheritance. Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the Lord God of Israel.

Israel will receive the fullness of her inheritance when she serves God with a whole heart.

    Dear Friends of Israel,
I regularly pray for Israel and appreciate your excellent articles. However, I have to ask you to stop sending your beautiful Israel my Glory Magazine now that I can download it from your website, because I cannot afford to pay for the magazine. My husband and I are 80 years old, and contribute to the upkeep of desperately poor Christians in South Africa and Zimbabwe. Our daughter’s husband Theuns first started to take medicines, groceries and clothes to Zimbabwe. Now his church in SA contributes so that he can pastor in Zim, where many have lost everything _ Perhaps you’ve heard how the Mugabe government grab farms often without allowing them to take anything on their property. Old white people in state service for years are denied their pensions. Some had no clothes to wear but now South African Christians contribute.
Our daughter Adri. a musician, plays in the Bulawayo Music Academy
orchestra and has 18 violin pupils. She and 2 other women in the congregation took an ACE course to teach poor kids in the mornings_ even 12 year olds without schooling unable to read or write! Many members get their only full meal at church on Sundays!
